Wrongful Conviction
We help wrongfully convicted people prove their innocence and seek compensation.
Being convicted of a crime that you did not commit is one of the greatest injustices imaginable. KLLF is dedicated to vindicating people who have been wrongfully convicted by working to vacate their convictions and obtain significant monetary damages to help clients rebuild their lives. Our experience in this area includes bringing motions to vacate unjust convictions in New York courts, as well as litigating civil rights lawsuits against the people responsible for framing our clients. Our lawyers’ work on behalf of wrongfully convicted people has included:
Representing three men who were wrongfully convicted of murder in the 1990s, obtaining over $30 million in settlements.
Successfully overturning the conviction of a man wrongly convicted of a 1993 murder in New Haven, Connecticut, after the court found that the prosecution had illegally suppressed significant impeachment material.
Filing a civil rights lawsuit on behalf of Ricky Birch against the Town of New Milford and several Town and State police officials alleging that police misconduct caused their wrongful convictions for the 1985 murder of Everett Carr.
Representing two brothers wrongfully convicted of murder in West Virginia in a lawsuit against the county and another man wrongly convicted of murder in Tennessee.
Successfully obtaining an order for DNA testing from a crime committed over 20 years ago, which excluded our client.
