Police Misconduct

We help victims of law enforcement violence and abuse.

Being arrested without cause, subjected to excessive force, or prosecuted on trumped up charges are among the most traumatic experiences anyone can endure. KLLF attorneys have significant experience helping get justice for people in situations like yours. Some examples of our work:

  • Suing the City of New York, Mayor Bill de Blasio, the NYPD Commissioner , and NYPD Chief of Department, on behalf of four protestors, alleging that the Mayor and NYPD leadership are personally responsible for the NYPD's brutal crackdown on First Amendment activity after the murder of George Floyd.

  • Winning the highest known per-person settlement in a mass arrest class action, on behalf of racial justice protesters who were kettled and brutalized by the NYPD in Mott Haven in June 2020, with 223 of 257 eligible class members participating and each receiving at least $21,500.

  • Achieving success in a federal lawsuit on behalf of a U.S. Army veteran who was brutally assaulted—on camera—by police at the Plattsburgh Police Station in 2017, resulting in a legal ruling that the officers had a legal obligation to reasonably accommodate his PTSD and a favorable settlement.

  • Bringing suit in Manhattan federal court challenging the NYPD’s policy of arbitrarily forcing Muslim women to remove their religious headscarves—their hijabs—for post-arrest processing photos.
